Revenge travel has been trending ever since the  COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and its travel restrictions came to an end. Revenge travel refers to a leisure trip after a long period of not traveling due to restrictions such as a pandemic, work or school obligations, or other reasons. Soon after the pandemic restrictions eased, people wanted to get away from their everyday routines to enjoy some time away from home. The rise of travel in response to this epidemic was called the revenge travel era.

The traveling industry is seeing an upsurge in bookings and travel plans by people who missed their flights previously. The number of travelers from the US to Europe has increased by 600% in the last few months. Read on to learn more about revenge traveling here:

What Exactly is Revenge Travel, and Why is it Surging?

According to NPR, revenge travel is a “huge increase in people wanting to make up for time and experiences lost to the pandemic.” The term was coined by a travel agency, explaining how people were getting their revenge for being confined to their homes for over two years.

One of the reasons why people started traveling after the COVID-19 pandemic is because many realized that life is too short to wait for the perfect timing and perfect trip to spend time with their friends and family. This and the realization that spending time in nature is healing for mental and physical health gave rise to revenge travel. People were booking flights to their favorite destinations and traveling o distant lands that they had only dreamed about before but never had the heart to spend money and visit.

Forbes says that after the pandemic, people were willing to spend more than they previously had spent on traveling and spending quality time with their family, ensuring an unforgettable trip.

According to AAA, the US and Mexico were two of the most popular destinations in 2021. However, this year people are traveling to the Caribbean and Europe. Here are some of the most visited places by Americans in 2022:
